After changing a few dead bulbs in my speedo/rev counter unit I managed to dislodge the thin red and pink wires from the back of the unit

Can anyone tell me which way round they go and also what they do please? I can’t see any mention of either wires in the wiring diagram
Cheers, an electrical numpty

Hi Paul
Been looking at my wiring diagrams and as you say there is no reference to the pink and red wires in the instrument cluster.
Can you get a couple of photos up on here to show us what you have?
I’m thinking along the lines of it may be the Japan domestic market speed warning light that would have been fitted if your cluster originated on a 750

I’ll post a photo tonight but I think you may be right as the wires go into the rear of the speedo side of the unit.

Ok, photo as promised. The two wires go into the rear of the speedo half of the clock set.

I have to say that I believe it is for a speed censor, when the needle gets to 80 kmh, a contact is made that iilluminates a red warning light which is separate from the speedo cluster on a 750 jap market.
This could really help in the wrong speed readings as if it is as said previously from an S2 the front wheel would be 16". So the gearbox next to the wires would be converting large rotations when it should smaller ones.
I will check later with my spare clocks . But I would just put it back together and run it .......if all the lights work......forget it.......

I have a PDF that was made by someone in Canada with 1100 clocks, on how to repair the needles ( see attached ). That shows clearly the pink and red wires on page 2.
In the service manual there are 4 wiring diagrams for different countries and none of those show pink and red wires in the clocks! The connection block is shown with 11 wires though, apart from Germany (E22) where there are only 9 wires in it.The extra 2 wires everyone else gets that Germany doesn't, go to a "Distance Sensor" (which wires back to the indicator relay) so they are for the self cancelling indicators. On the wiring diagram these are shown as Blue with Red tracer and Black with Red tracer (same in clock as well), if you want to meter them through to check. Hope that helps.
