Clutch Gone!

Just finished balancing the carbs on my '82 GSX1100sz, pulled the clutch lever to find that it felt disconnected! The handlebar lever operates the lever on the engine but there's no pressure there, the handlebar lever just flops around. Before I pull the clutch cover off tomorrow, any ideas what's occured? Cheers

I would think that either the lever is loose on the pinion, check before you drain the oil and remove the cover or the pinion is worn where it fits to the rack release. Or the circlip has come off of the rack release and its not engaged with the pinion.

Happy times.

Clutch hub nut off. Just a rough guess.

Cheers for the replies folks. I opened the oil filler cap and could see the clutch arm operating the clutch, so I tried moving the actuating arm back one spline, adjusted the cable tension and....fine! I'd even had problems before getting into neutral from first, now it works perfectly! I'm wondering if the cable conduit had somehow got stuck on the adjustment screw , perhaps the previous owner had just kept adjusting the cable tension, then the conduit finally jumped off. Anyhoo, all perfect now.

Nice to see it was a simple fix rather than an expensive strip down :D
