Just browsing through some of the pics I took I’ve just noticed a big lump of silicone in one of the oilways (see pic middle left) looks like the bloody sumps got to come off again

When I first got the bike, one of the first things I did was change the oil and filter plus remove the sump and strainer to clean it all out. Judging by the amount caked all around the sump joint the previous owner obviously had shares in a bathroom sealant company  It looks like this bit got past the filter and strainer. I’m now paranoid there’s more of the stuff floating around the oil system

Just wondering?
Are those two holes on the return side of the oil system? I don’t think they can be owt else but it means the lump of silicone has come from the top end as it’s too big to get past the filter and strainer.

Ok so looking at your photo and the diagrams and some other stuff, but without the benefit of looking at the real thing.

That gallery is on the oil return from the top end of the engine. So yes the silicon snot has been drawn down there from above. When you got the bike, was the cam cover glued on with said snot?

No Jim that’s the worrying part, the cam cover, head and barrels where fitted with new gaskets without any sealant at all and they didn’t leak? So said lump of snot must have come from the sump

Well what a complete and utter t**t I am
I’ve had a sneaky day off work today after twisting my ankle walking the dog! So it was sump off time and have a root around for the lump of snot the camera found. They say the camera never lies well this feckker does. It’s quite difficult to look under the bottom of the motor without a bike lift so I have to manage with a torch and swmbo’s mirror  well I couldn’t for the life of me find the snot anywhere? It wasn’t in the sump plate so as I hadn’t started the motor where could it be? I took another pic with the flash on this time and it looks like the first pic is an optical delusion  if you look at the new pic compared to the old one you can see the casting at the bottom of the hole. I got the airline out and blew out the oil drain galleries from the top of the cases which revealed it was all clear. So I’ve had a wasted afternoon, or have I? I’ve now got peace of mind there’s no more silicone floating about the motor.
