2001gsx600f Starter problems

Hi trying to start with a new fully charged battery just hear a single clicking noise each time starter button pressed. Have tried bridging the solenoid terminals and a direct positive link from battery to starter and nothing from both. Do you think the starter needs replacing. If so am struggling to see how to remove it. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance
