Last year, I replaced the 19 year-old genuine Suzuki foam air filter which was looking a little worn and fissured with a cheaper after market one off Ebay. When it arrived it looked exactly the same, the only difference I could see was that the seams were glued in the after market one rather than sewn as in the original.
When I checked it today to give it a clean, one of the seams had split open all the way along its length. It had essentially fallen apart in less than a year!
Looking to replace it, has anyone used one of these different shaped after market ones which look a bit more robust. Not sure what they're made of, paper or foam? eg https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MS-Air-filte ... 1811032911

Having said that, I think I may just bite the bullet and order a Genuine Suzuki one from Robinsons @ £38.

I’ve always found using pod filters entails altering the jetting.

Go genuine as you will have a whole lot of pain for not much gain. If memory serves me correctly the same filter is in the gsx400f from the 80's. I got mine from ebay genuine NOS but not for genuine price. I'll double check and get back

Don't go pod filters ....the 650 one is washable and cheap enough and yes same as 400f.
What people forget to do oil the filter after washing it.
The book says was it in petrol .....however this was before ethanol which loves to eat foam.
Kerosene is much better. Then airfilter oil.

In the past, I always oiled up the air filter with some engine oil after first cleaning it in white spirits to get the dust and grime out. Maybe the glue on the new one is soluble in white spirits? Will have to monitor it.
Will avoid the pod one if it requires re-jetting. Seems like too much trouble. Not even sure it would fit properly with a jubilee clip since the attachment hole on the airbox is D-shaped rather than O-shaped.
In the end, I got a genuine Suzuki air filter from Robinsons Foundry for £38 rather than the Ebay after-market ones @ £15.
When I unpacked it and took a look, the seams were glued, same as the cheap after market ones!
Fitted it to the bike. The hardest part was securing the air box cover back on with the two clips due to the restricted access.
Hope it lasts longer than the last one.

The trick with the clips is to break the tang off on off the clips on which you fit to the bottom, that way it dosen't foul with the brake slave cyl. Fit that one first then the slide the top one on .
Even with sausage fingers it works well.
