I need to get on with the the Kat 1000 that moved in a while ago

Looking through the boxes of “stuff” that came with it, I need to do a check on all the brackets and bits that I need powder coated.

I have a swinging arm, but it won’t be powder coated

Some bits will be black, others silver

I’m just going to throw a list out on to the forum for you to see if I’m missing something.

Frame
Front engine brackets
Lower engine brackets
Rear upper engine brackets and spacer
Front Mudguard brace
Front Brake hose brackets
Front brake hose splitter
Fairing Brackets
Rear Mudguard support
Rear indicator brackets
Rear light mount
Rear number plate bracket
Tool kit bracket
Electrics plate
Battery box
Rear brake torque arm
Rear chain guard
Rear brake hose guide bracket
Center stand
Side stand
Air filter box lid
Air box plenum chamber covers
Air box plenum chamber bracket
Front seat bracket

Have I missed anything?

:D :D

Brake calipers, master cylinders, clutch perch. Some things are nicer in satin black.

When you get the frame done, think about what you want to happen with the area around the frame number. Once powder coated, it's very hard to see. If your bike is MOT exempt, it's not really a problem.

Remember to remove any rubber bushes, as the oven will melt them.

Used Aerocoat for Skruffy Kat last time, they do a good job and the frame number is clearly visible. All the rubber bushes/bungs/cushions on the stuff heading for the coasters are perished, so in the bin!

I've used Aerocoat in the past as well. Last time was for the PC50 frame and parts which they must have dropped as the exhaust bracket was bend in badly and bending it back cracked the finish. Also the swing was bent in as well and I had to use a scissor jack to push it out. They took ages as well. I'm not sure I'll use them again. I think maybe the son has taken over now so not the same...?

I have used Colorcoat which used to be near the Lotus factory but have moved to Morningthorpe now (even nearer me!) and also I have heard Lustre Coating also down the A140 past Newton Flotman (where Seastar Motorcycles are) are good as well.

However I'd look at Ceracote as a finish. It's a lot finer (thinner) and looks great, but won't cover imperfections. I used High Caliber Coatings at Stradbroke in Suffolk who I found out about from CMM as Steve Cooper used them. You won't get potential issues when / if powder coating isn't done correctly and it rusts from underneath. Really nice guy runs it on his own, had some good chats with him when dropping stuff off, you need to call ahead. though It will be more expensive but I don't think it's overly so.

For example 250 Katana exhaust was about £140 ( 2 years ago - it's still sitting in the loft of the garage!)

Kawasaki F7 exhaust, X7 and 250 Katana brake calipers, X7 fork sliders (these about £220 I think for all parts shown)

If you do come down this way call in for a cuppa and come see the non Kats in the garage, including the pink Gag
