GS 650 Katana Seat Locking mechanism broken

Very suddenly this morning, without any warning, the seat locking mechanism has stopped working. The key can be inserted and turned as usual, and you can see the attached rods and levers on the seat move but the seat can't be lifted off.
I have tried the obvious things like if I'm using the correct key (it's different to the ignition one) or shaking the seat while pulling with mild force etc.
Can anyone suggest how to proceed from here?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

When you say the levers move , in total there are 3 parts .The important bit is the bit that drops through the tailpiece where a little white clip sites over the connection .
Sometimes this comes adrift or the circlip at the seat mechanism end .
Anyway can you push the bar that is through the tailpiece backwards , just a smidge, that releases the hooks on the seat plate ....(this is adjustable by the way to account for wear.)
This only works if the key barrel end is disconnected along the 3 bars ..
The other option is fiddly ..but a long hooked lever/ bar thin enough to slide up between subframe rail and tailpiece at the point on the seat bracket and grab the hook just a bit towards the tank .
Bon chance !

Thanks Fossie. I will have a try tomorrow. If no luck, will take it onto the local bike shop. Hopefully it can be got off without breaking the lock and having to source another one, which would probably mean second hand from somewhere.

The lock itself is really irrelevant to the mechanism in that it just up clips from the bars . So just unclip anyone of them frees the lever to move the hooks .

In the end the bike shop fixed it. They said they just had to oil up the locking mechanism. However it still feels stiff and reluctant to open like it's only temporary and about to reoccur...
Fingers crossed it lasts.

It that case keep oiling it with a graphite spray in the lock and joints .
We'd 40 etc dosen't work for long graphite spray leaves a residue a bit like ball bearings..
Silkopen is good stuff.
