I've had Motobatt batteries on my three bikes for some time (ranging from two to eight years) never had any problems with them (unlike the lead acid batteries that were useless after a couple of years) the one in my Kawasaki Kr-1 is left alone for months at a time and still doesn't need a top up charge, the fittings differ on each model and it's true that some of them are a bit fiddly, only problem I had with the one in the Katana is that the battery cage is so exposed that I wrapped the battery in black scotch tape to stop the yellow bits showing through!

Maybe as the headline says the copies are called Motosplatt for copyright reasons :)

Agree about the lead acid ones (Yuasa) not lasting long. Normally I get about 2 years out of them.
Continuing to use them when they start to have problems holding charge seems to put a strain on the system and take out the regulator/rectifier.

It is an issue that has arisen from the modern ruling that acid can no longer be shipped separately So now all batteries are sealed units that have no capicity for overbreathing and venting .
So the acid is no longer of the same density so less able to store as long ...

True of car and bike batteries You get voltage but No cracking power .

I think Yuasa have definitely gone downhill a bit. I put a new one in my Buell a few years ago and it only lasted one year. The Motobatt replacement has lasted 2, so far.
