checking Alternator .

Just did a quick continuity check on a 650 alternator wires and got a bleep when I joined , 1 with another but not from the others , , but not when I put one probe to earth ,
My memory must be going , so should I have a bleep across all 3 or No bleep, eitherway these windings are failing to produce the 14.5v they should and yes it could be reg/rec...but obviously the windings are suspect .

This is on the 650 I lent to Jmac and have only just found the time to get round to checking it out ...

Continuity between phases should be the same, or a beep!

So 1-2, 1-3 & 2-3 should all be the same.

No continuity phase to earth, that’s a phase shorting to earth if you do….

Ideally you would use a insulation tester/megger, but a machine that goes beep should be adequate :D :D

cheers , yep bleep 2-3 ..no bleep on others .. oddly the thing charges 3/4 strength as said...but it is wired direct , not through lighting circuit.
