Hi

Post by gregwgsxr » Sun Dec 23, 2018 4:18 pm

Just picked up a 400 katana gsx400ssn today in need of a bit of tlc. Looking to be a bit of a non standard project so may have some bits up for grabs.
But looking to drop a bigger engine so if anyone is in the know let me know what fits.
Thanks

Yah but you can pick a tea pot up for about £600 keep the engine, carbs and electrics then sell the rest on eBay cheap upgrade!

Hi there
A lad ...Harry "dropped "a 750 gsxr engine in a 400 a few years back, didn't need to brace the frame as there was no room!
Personally as said get it running as is see what it's like , yep they are big framed for a 400 but it is a well balanced package. I dispatched mine for 15 years or so , did over 100 thou but then needed new brakes and carbs , which I replaced then sold it.

Hi,

Isn't Katgeezer in the middle of trying to put a 600 teapot engine in a 400? Sure it was him I was talking to at the AGM and he was saying his current issue was there was no clearance for the petrol tap so looking at remote options . It might be worth while contacting him to see what he already knows. I did also think that a cheap teapot engine in the 400 would make it an even better package, so interested to follow your project, but I think mine will stay standard unless the engine dies.

Also as I plan on keeping my 400 for some time, a heads up on your parts sales would be good, as I would be interested.

Well after dropping the carbs in the ultrasonic, new plugs, checking all wires, a bit of petrol and a couple of charged batteries, and a squirt of brake cleaner just for good luck! We have life in all 4 cylinders. Sounds pretty good no odd noises and revs freely.
Now I can pull it out and find a 750 oil cooled engine lump :)
