Hi.

Post by Katapult » Tue Nov 02, 2021 6:48 pm

I've just joined the forum and thought I'd say hello.

A bit about me.

I had a 1982 Katana 1100 for a couple of years in the early 1980s until I was forced to sell it to finance a purchase for my business, something that had to be done, but I've regretted ever since. Back then I thought that there was nothing like it on two wheels, and in the nearly 40 years between then and now nothing has changed my mind. I'm recently back on the road on two wheels again and I'm really hankering for another one. So I thought that joining here might really fire me up, after all, I can't see there being many people on here who are going to think it's a bad idea.

Welcome aboard , your correct not many on here will try to convince you that an 1100 Kat won't be a good idea... Others will try to extol the virtues of other Kats aswell. You will need one on the road by August to join the mass meeting coming to a location not so far from you!

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like a plan!
I sold my first 1100 in the early 2000's and then like you regretted it and finally got another in 2010 (and 2018!), What kind of thing are you after then? Something you can work on or done more or less ready to go?

Well, it's a pretty loose plan at the momentb but it's gathering momentum.

I knew I had to sell it, I just didn't want to. Only bonus was i took a tuned LC350 in part-ex.

Not sure what i want exactly yet, but I looked at the Kat 400 Japanese import that was on ebay recently for £3k, but when one of the phone numbers had a digit missing and the other 2 numbers just hung up on me when i phoned I gave that a miss, but I'd consider one of those as they look like the Kat i had only smaller. Whether my budget will run to a 1000 or 1100 is open to question but I keep looking. Theres a non runner on ebay now, so I would consider something like that, but probably not a box of bits or a real wreck.

Or how about a nice 250?

Okay, it's not nice, but it is a 250.

Is the non-runner the 750?

Worth a punt at current price but there's time left so not sure where that will go up to.

I have a 400 and do like it a lot to ride - I generally pick that over the 1100 for the B roads around Norfolk / North Suffolk where I ride. Prices even for the 400 though do seem to have been dragged up and there are less of them about.

David Silvers also still has one 250 left for sale. It will need some work (pic below is from the auction in Japan) but he's had it since May so I think he's come down from the £2400 asking price. Possibly too small for you? I have one I'm currently working on, (on and off as not much time) - 15500rpm red line is going to be fun. Pookie on here has one that actually works!

Looking abroad if you want to try a personal import, then Germany has quite a few but prices are still generally high there, but saw this 1100 that works out at around £2700 + 5% import + transport.

Will need a paint and search for a proper seat and tail piece!

I think Lex posted another one the other week
