Hello from Worcester park
Hello from Worcester park
Hi All
I had a GS550mx katana from 1987 to 2005 and never thought i would see it again.
I have always had a bike since i was 16 and my current bike was a street twin which i had from new but i didn't ride it much after i retired. I decided to sell the street twin a month ago and I was thinking of getting a classic bike bercuase it would be tax free and EULZ compliant and cheaper to insure.
While looking on Ebay I spotted my old bike so I had to have it back.
It was a non-runner but that's ok I have history with this bike so I'm willing to spend a bit more on it. It has nearly new tyres chain & sprocket and the new seat I fitted just before I sold it is still in very good condition. It has a motad exhaust that was fitted before i bought it the first time i had it is still in good condition. It had no spark the CDI was dead so I replaced it and tested the rec/reg but it was over charging so that's what probably killed the CDI. It runs ok above 2500 revs but not very well at low revs. I cleaned the carbs in my ultrasonic cleaner and I did a compression test. It's very low on the inner cylinders 65psi and little bit higher on the outer cylinders 95psi but that's still too low so I did a leak down test and you can hear air escaping into the crank case. It is running very rich so I will see if I can adjust the mixture to getting it running a but better at low revs so I can ride it before I get parts together for a rebuild. Not sure yet if it needs rings or a rebore I will have to strip it down to have a look but I would like to ride it a bit more before winter.
I went for a Sunday afternoon ride to box hill and I'm pleased I bought it back and I'm looking forward to getting it sorted out over the winter.
Mick

Hello and welcome - great read - glad you've got your bike back again, and you're looking forward to a little work to getting it running well again.

Re: Hello from Worcester park
Wow. That looks to still be in excellent condition.
Love the old photo. Especially the Austin Maxi in the background. I passed my car driving test in one of them. Also Mrs GSF34058 currently has a beige Mini, and had a Honda Melody, if that is what is in the background. So I'm feeling all nostalgic now!
Welcome along.

Nothing screams poor workmanship quite like wrinkles in your duct tape.

Re: Hello from Worcester park
Looks like a Honda Novio which was my first bike! Don't ask.. I hadn't saved up enough cash for the Fizzy until 2 months after my 16th birthday - no bank of mum and dad in those days!
