Somerset Calling
Somerset Calling
Evening All,
A quick hello to all from a long time Katana'er. First one (pop-up) back in 1989ish (owned about 10 years and about 100k miles), second (650) for a couple of years early 1990s.
Px'd a Gpz900 for a second pop-up in 2002. Still got that but it's been shed-bound for 10 years due to life's distractions...... Having sold my BMW K1 the money made me buy an imported pop-up minus body work, but otherwise very nicely sorted (thanks Ibreakformoose who I believe passes through these parts).
Anyhoo...... Some 6 months later I think I've successfully merged a Jap import with a Canadian import (Japadian? Canapan?). Just need to fathom the bureaucracy of registration and it's on the road. In the meanwhile I'm on my Maggot ...
I do like an 80s bike!

Re: Somerset Calling
As long as you have the NOVA certificate, it is straightforward. One form and £55.
GSX250SS Tinykat (gone, but the hole in my wallet not forgotten)
GSX400SS Smallkat
GT250 X7
GT200 X5

Re: Somerset Calling
That said getting a NOVA is a case of phoning HMRC to send out the forms , without this form nowadays you more likely to have a functioning government!
Re: Somerset Calling
Thanks all for the welcome and words of wisdom. Have had a rummage on t'web. Looks like an MOT, a V55/5 and £55 are needed. I think in that order. Found the import paperwork. If all goes well I may have a CX for sale....
Need to do the Super Dream thing to the rectifier. 30 years since I last did that to Kat.01. Pretty sure you guys to have it covered in a thread. Didn't bother with Kat.03 as I ran it in headlight on. But what's the point in running a pop-up like that!

Hi,
Quick update....Kat now MoT'd. Weather and fear or forms holding things up. On the road this spring.....! If there are any of those speedo overlays left I can loose the nasty external stick ons that got it through the MoT...

Re: Somerset Calling
If you haven't got the NOVA it is no longer easy (or cheapish!) as they changed the rules Oct 2022. From the HMRC Import Website now:
"You need to make an import declaration. This is done using the Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) system or the Customs Declaration Service (CDS) system " and the only to do that is to pay a freight handler.
JohnR has found this out with his GSX1100G from Holland - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=9060
That's unless he's found out another solution - must ask him...

Re: Somerset Calling
Pretty sure I'm through the Nova gate and with an MOT (which has put the bikes basic details into the system) it's just the V55/5 to go which has got me stumped. And payment by cheque!!!???
