Finding the best airfield cafe.

Post by Jonty » Sat Jan 10, 2026 5:40 pm

Airfield cafes are something else!

I went to Elstree to https://www.facebook.com/aerodromecafe to find out if their breakfast could cut the mustard!

For 2026 I'm on a mission to try as many airfield cafes as possible and see if their breakfasts are up to scratch, here is the first visit on the Katana.

So dosen't fit within your 2 mile radius but Barton Aerodrome near Manchester. It is the original Manchester airport, has the oldest original working control tower and is listed, was used in WW2 for Lancasters delivery. Now used by air ambulance and Police everyday as well as private planes .. Is the only airfield to accredited with Military refueling, ( as in can be operated with engines running) as such hosts , Chinook, Apache, Wildcat, Osprey and when called for Blue ones! ;)
All while you have a brew! ;)

So on your travels right by M60 junc with A57.

2 hours :)

Put that so I can start local as I work in evenings, but hearing of some great ones further afield, had so many recommendations on Facebook and YouTube its unreal, so now have a full year of trips to plan and next one is to Denham tomorrow, where ex Blue Peter girl Sarah Greene runs a drone footage filming company.

Thank you for sharing idea, it's now on the list!

Here's the latest, Denham airfield, with a cute James Bond connection but also an amazing funny story about pilot nicking a plane and buzzing Heathrow!!
