All my Kats are away at the MOT station ...except this one ...why? Because it has decided to only start on choke and won't tick over ..the carbs were balanced but it took ages and they weren't perfect or at least to say they were roughly in the same garage a few months ago .
I suspect that the carbs will require ripping off and ultrasonicing because a half hearted job was carried out in the first place ...

The bit that astounds me is:::: when I reread this thread I mention I was 53 and will probably have snuffed it before it's finished :o

:o :o :o :o :o :o I'm fudging 60 now ...still here .still fannying about with the same issues .
Granted I have many others all roadworthy and ready to go anywhere any time! :|

It looks pretty good for the mileage, but could really do with a better pic.

Are all Kat owners kursed with karb issues? Is it part of the 'fun'?

Not the big ones  (bikes that is not owners lol)
I ultrasonic cleaned, balanced and set them up 4-5 yrs ago and I've not touched them since. I always use Esso super fuel in both my bikes which in our area is "supposed" to be ethanol free. So far so good
There rubbish them Jap bikes lad they won't last five minutes! you want to get yourself a nice Royal Enfield!
A quote from my old dad 8-)

I started out with nothing and I’ve got most of it left!

Normally Kat carbs are ok EXCEPT for the water cooled ones 250/400, due to the very small jetting and orifaces .
The carbs on this one were drained cleaned and dried and stored....with the drain plugs out for more years than the original plan. I was hoping that would be good enough ,and it proved so but the tank topped a load of rust into the system ...I sealed it with por51 and cleaned the carbs with air and cleaner hoping it would suffice ....it hasn't".

If you want to give 'em a go matey ....they are off the bike, one of the float bowls had a residue that looked like goo balls in it ...the others were OK ....the filters seemed OK .but the pilot screws and air mixture screws seem stuck .

All the float and main jets were new and never run in earnest .

I am going to start using the Esso pump at Blackpool. Been using Shell super expensive with additive and keeping fingers crossed. This is for all my classic bikes.

I've only got a little one and small orifices too. Might as well give up now.
