Charity Bike Build - 1100SZ

Post by sparki » Wed Feb 12, 2020 9:48 pm

This is posted on behalf of John Martin:
----------------------------------

I hope this is okay to post here.

As some of you are aware my wife Florence isn't well. She was diagnosed with primary progressive MS two yrs back. She loves collecting for the MS Society so I want to do my bit. I've started a Facebook group called "Charity Bike Build" https://www.facebook.com/groups/167716501327189/ . I'm going to restore a tired GSX1100SZ Kat with help from a lot of great friends, volunteers and then sell it. All profits will go to the MS Society.
Feel free to come and see.

Thanks all. Here is what we starting with:

does anyone know of any history for KSP 305 X by any chance?

Malc has given some recent history but as I'm going to be doing a photobook to go with this build i thought it'd be nice to add what i could for whoever ends up with it :)

It was last mot'd in 2007 with 36 000 on the clock so anything prior to this would be great :)

It would have been registered in Scotland (Dundee) unless it was an import after 2000 when it could just be random.
Maybe find out if Suzuki dealer in Dundee in 1982 is still trading , some have records.

I'll move this thread to Projects. I'll grab images from the FB group to post the progress if that is OK John but feel free to ask for parts / post images yourself. If you want to post some images Sparki, that would be good as well (since you are the image keeper! - UB

Hi Rob, thanks for doing that.
Just wanted to say a huge thanks for the donation guys. Hugely appreciated.
I think restoring a Kat for this cause was the right choice. I love them. This is the worse condition one i've worked on. With the help from everyone, and the donations I hope to make this lovely. The end goal is to achieve as nuch as possible for the chosen charity. Thanks again

23/02/20: we have alsorts going on, stuff shipped out all over the place, so far we only needed to pay to post one item.
It's tough trying to build a top end Kat and penny pinch. Im happy to penny pinch but not on the bike ;-) it needs to be great and will be. Rob & Sparkles are gonna try & help keep this updated.
Thanks all

Hi folks, lots still going on. John Regan is kindly sorting the frame, thanks John. I had new crankcases delivered today, D&K have been cool, they knocked almost £300 of the price of a clean set of stock pipes and let us have very clean crankcases at better than half price. £70.
All the engine parts are going to Brian McCall for vapor blast. He's also doing the carbs and having ago at the wheels. He is a diamond, his attention to detail is fantastic.

Hi FBJ, I just joined, I have some of that stuff I don't need, really I didn't know it was valuble. I just tossed my 1k Kat's carbs, and calapers in the trash, I was going to go more modern, if they have value you can have them, I can dig them out, trash day isn't for a few more days. You can have my indicators too. I'm in the US so not sure if they are the same. I have switch gear too if you need it.
82 Katana 1000 (work in progress, but she will be beautiful she has a dedicated sugar daddy)
2010 Z1000 (50k miles, I think that is like 60 Kilometer's or so)
