SMALLKAT

Post by Smallkat » Mon Dec 14, 2020 1:15 pm

The 400 needs some cosmetic things doing to it:

rider footrests
screen
engine emblems
grips

Does anyone know the part number for the black emblems?

I think Smallkat has the Black engine on his 400 so wants the ones with the black background? The parts fiche we have only has the ones you state GeeKay, for the silver engine.

Even trying to find a picture of a black engined one with the decals on is hard...

The new screen for Smallkat has arrived, but I am still waiting on the rubber cushions and spacers to fit it. It's come from a company in Wales called Slipscreens. It looks good quality and was £40 delivered.

The scabby footrests were annoying me.

I found one replacement on ebay and one at Robinsons. Also needed new springs, pins and spacers. Much better now.

It looks like screen spacers and cushions are discontinued. Does anyone have a good alternative? Or should I just bodge it with a couple of rubber washers?

The fork stanchions need a re-chrome. Phillpotts seem to be the acknowledged experts, but they are £195 a pair plus return post. There are several other companies who will do them for £150 including return postage. I have three sets of forks to do, so a saving would be handy. What do you guys think?

Agree they're not cheap. But so far all the sets they have done for me have been top quality. They did a couple of sets way back in the past, then the forks for Scruffy Kat and more recently the forks for the Thou.

They also did the forks for Fred61's Pop Up.

Might be worth calling them to see if they'll give you a discount to do all sets of forks for you. If you don't ask-you don't get!

As for the other folk that do that work, I'm sorry but I cannot comment only because I have not used them.
I would think that if they have been going for sometime then they know what they are doing.
There is Brook Suspension, Hard Chrome Plating and Philpots as the main people offering this service.

Have you checked with Wemoto to see if they list new stantions from Tarozi?

I was thinking of Hard Chrome Plating for the work.

Checked Wemoto, but they don't have anything.

Thanks for the suggestions.

David asked me about sourcing screen cushions and quoted me part number 09320-05008. The number I have is 09320-07013. So I checked my screens and both Smallkat and Tinykat have screen mount holes of about 10.75mm.

My new screen from Slipscreens has 7.75mm holes. If you have the smaller holes, you can use cushion 09320-05008, along with a screw and rubber washer.

If you have the larger holes, then you need the bigger cushion and 'top hat' type spacer (no longer available).
