GS 1000000 G - 99%

Post by Lexdba » Wed Feb 03, 2021 7:34 am

And for my first restoration topic: My new GS 1000 G - Crust edition.

Since I didn't have enough bikes or projects yet I adopted this crustacean.
I had four (!) friends text me within the hour saying I needed to buy and save this. So here we are.....

I sure do Paul :lol:

So on the second day of owning this oxidation special I turned my attention to the exhaust studs.
Always. The. Same. Story. But this was next level butchery, they even custom made some extension nuts!

So the Dremel came out with a death wheel and I cut all the fookers off as close as possible.
Used my favourite secret weapon, my extremely expensive silicon carbide drill bits.

Drill 2/3mm deep and use a regular split point drill to relief the hole. Drill too deep and you risk breaking the carbide and there is no material left hard enough to drill those out!

And before all of you *ahum* start about lifting heads; I usually do that too but since this lump has both compression and a working gearbox I don't see the need to break it open!

Anyway; they're all perfectly fine now and the further de-crustyfication process can commence.

And after the last remaining minutes before the evening curfew hit I ended up with something that looks like Fossie owns it instead of Poseidon.

Hi Lex,

Where can I buy a 'death wheel' for my Dremel? All the cutting discs that came with it are either fragile or useless!

So far so good, frame appears to be clean and unmolested :idea:

Some of you know this already but I am a complete sucker for refinishing. I mix my own paints and colours so this Crust-o-special will be no different.

Matched the paint with my old school colour charts;

Need to test some more but I have attached some blue candy examples painted over 13L :-)
