Sat nav fitting
Want to fit a Garmin Zumo XT sat nav and trying to work out best place.
I really would be just below top of screen above speedo, but would need some custom bracket to mount onto screen screws (top ones) and I'm not sure about adding any stress to screen.
Alternative would be to mount either on the steering stem bolt or the pinch bolt that holds the steering stem tight, that way sat nav would sit below speedo in terms of line of sight.
I didnt want to mount on handlebars or mirrors as its then exposed to wind and weather and might reduce range or motion if not positioned properly.
Could other share their experience of mounting sat nav and does anyone know of anyone who could custom build bracket for this if I gave them directions/measurements?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Sat nav fitting
Sparki had a neat one off the top of the steering stem pinch bolt. Haven't got a decent photo of it, here's 3 I have. He sold the bike, he might have kept the bracket - you could ask him. It's going to cover the speedo somewhat
I still prefer maps - they don't crash! but I have found with age I can't read them while riding along anymore
I just use my phone when i want a GPS in the tank bag top (or map pocket on tank).

Is it this Sam Baker?Blix wrote: ↑Sat Mar 18, 2023 7:21 pmA guy called Sam Baker is top notch at making aluminium custom brackets and such, he made my top yoke and a bracket to mount the speedo sensor on my wheel.
He was on Faceache but I don’t have an account anymore, he used to have a Ford Capri as his profile pic, failing that the guys on OSS or ACS can probably point you in the right direction.

Re: Sat nav fitting
If your touring why would you want a sat nav? You only end riding from one destination to another under instruction
You miss landmarks, scenery because your busy looking at the sceenery
When you connection is lost so are you!
AND don't forget the famous "you've arrived at your destination". When really you've arrived at A destination ...not the one you wanted but the one chosen by the gismo you've become dependant on.

Re: Sat nav fitting
Sat Nag mounting bar is 25mm diameter x 40mm long. Drilled and tapped each end for 6mm
Brackets are 6mm thick.
Holes at 65mm centres
M6 clearance at top. Radius of top bit is 12.5 mm.
M8 clearance at bottom of bracket. Radius of bottom bit is 9mm.
The offset is achieved by machining a couple of curves in the ally sheet that give you some clearance over the top yoke see photo.
