A vexing question.

Post by fossie » Wed Oct 05, 2011 10:40 pm

Now there are many threads on here about fitting 1100 engines in to 750 frames.
Now I need to ask why?
If the 750 engine is goosed then I understand. Kind of!

But if the 750 is running fine WHY swap it , WHY spend time sourcing new carbs cdi etc.
Why take a perfectly good bike off the road to do unessesary work. :o

I run both S2 and S3. Both have taken Smand and I around Europe, over mountains with camping gear , with no drama's Both return 45 -50 mpg
Both cruise at 75-80 mph for hours when needed.
They both accelerate anyway from lights before any other traffic, niether need constant gear changing to maintain a pace,
No this is a serious question what am I missing ? :?

Because there's always the same questions about engine mounting plates and what carbs to use. And that is nobody uses the search function. That is why.

The main reason I'm putting an 1100 in a 750 frame is, bought the frame on its own, and just happened to have an 1100 motor lying around. Like you do!

Would have stuck a smiley on the end there, but can't seem to find them.

At the bottom of the quick reply window is a box that says 'full editor',click on that and it opens your reply up in a new box with all the smileys etc.

In answer to the question posed..... power is gooood, to much is never enough :D :D :D

Seriously tho', a basic 750 is a perfectly capable machine as it stands, HOWEVER, if you want a bit more then the 750's aren't terribly tunable. There's not much about for them (an 840 kit if you can find one is about it) so chucking the 1100 in is a easy way to more grunt and there's loads of tuning stuff for 'em if you want even more.

Coz I have a 750 frame with no engine and a spare 1100EFE engine...nuff said ;)

If I had a decent 750 I'd probably leave it as is BUT that's only coz I've got lots of other projects to play with. If it was my only bike I'd slap a bigger motor in it coz a 750 just doesn't give you the same buzz that you get from giving an 11 full beans
