Petrol everywhere!!!

Post by Nicky Dodds » Fri Mar 28, 2014 4:44 pm

Started the SD for the first time since 2001 and there's fuel flooding from somewhere at a great rate of knots!
While the bikes just stood there it's ok but as soon as it's fired up and you try tease it to tick over of it's own accord it just pours out from somewhere.
I've not touched the carbs as the previous owner said they probably wouldn't need touching.
Does this sound like a carb strip down and clean?

Apparently it was rebuilt from the ground up, ridden for about a thousand miles and then tucked away at the back of a garage behind 4 other bikes that actually got ridden. The bike is in fantastic condition and mega clean. The tank was empty and rusted but that's been dealt with as it wasn't seriously bad. Everything else seems to work as it should...

if there was rst in the tank, it would have found its way into the carbs. also if the carbs have been stood dry, any rubber seals in there may have dred out and split.

I think the rust may have been as a result of the tank being emptied before laying it to rest john but either way i'll have to have a look. Do suzuki still do repair kits for carbs?

The floats have most certainly got gummed up. NRP will supply new aftermarket float complete for about 10 a carb to club members, so don't fanny about trying to clean and set yours, d the job once.

The only thing missing from the aftermarket ones are the little dome filtrs on the top of the housing but they just slip off.

I'm not sure of anywhere near me that does it.
A mate recommended a place in Hull that vapour blasts carbs for him...
