choke

Post by spondonchris » Wed Oct 22, 2014 8:51 pm

I am a complete newbie with Kats so forgive my ignorance. I thought the Kat choke worked off the dial on the sidepanel. I have just taken the carbs off the SD I am trying to fix up and the carbs have a lever at the end of the choke rod. Is this normal or has someone swapped the carbs out in the past?

Just checked mine and the choke cable going from the dial roughly follows a similar route as the throttle cable....curling over the top of the carbs almost centrally. This meets a small goalpost/pulley affair which is attached to the communal link rod which activates the choke mechanism on all 4 carbs. No lever on the end of that link rod.

Quite a common mod. The knob on the rod. Some people just use a cloths peg.
When the knob on the panel breaks the tangs on the back , people just go manual so to speak.

choke on the panel needs a cable and the fittings to secure it to the knob and the carbs. plenty of folk just fit the knob to the carbs cos it needs fewer parts. have you not downloaded the parts microfiche chris, its on the old forum.

I have a set of fiche and a manual but the diagrams look different to what I have. I have posted some pics on ACS on FB and am struggling to identify what the carbs are.
Will resize the pics and post on here

I had to do a double take when I saw the pics of your 400 when you bought it, what was the choke knob on the bike? it looked like it came off a 1970's gas cooker, i'm glad you're getting the correct parts, I found b and b motorcycles in Lincoln really useful when getting parts for my 250 kat.
