those hydraulic oilers are fine if you don't have the bent tube bit at the end of the cable... they do a great job on normal cables but throw in the curved steel tube thing and it's a messy thing imo

nah, you turn the cable over and oil it from the other end.

Just asked 'cos i've been looking for one for ages, been using a bit of old hosepipe and a halfords footpump with differing results

I've had mixed luck with cable oiling....
Some are full of graphite powder or something, which means they don't / shouldn't need oil.
I spent days letting oil work through a cable and was really pleased by the amount of black stuff that washed out.
Five minutes after putting it back on I was ordering a new one.

But you've nothing to lose by oiling it. If it doesn't work then you were going to buy a new one anyway.

I have a cable oiler and use 2stoke oil. Works a treat. If you have to replace genuine or venhill

Thanks all. Several good options there.
In the past I tried a cheap aftermarket patern 'Hilex' cable off Ebay for £10. It only lasted about a month before the casing split and it self-destructed and seized so have stuck with the genuine Suzuki ones after that.
