Kat newbie

Post by PaulD » Mon Jan 01, 2018 8:39 pm

Hello all and thanks for letting me join the forum.
I’m Paul from the N/W of England I’ve been into bikes from the age of ten riding on the fields around my home. I’ve had a fair few bikes in my time ranging from BSA Bantams to a GSXR 1100 which was the best bike I’ve ever owned bar none. I’ve been into two strokes mostly including a spell of club racing with an RGV and a TR500 replica. I’ve just done a deal with my Suzuki GT750J to get my first big Kat. I’m looking forward to getting out on her and seeing what she’s like.

Thanks for the welcome guys, I’m sure you’ll soon get fed up with me asking stupid questions the first of which is how do I join the owners club, how much does it cost and how do I pay?

Is this a bike that was on eBay just before Christmas, it is an SZ but has had the tank replaced with an SD one. .....from Peterborough area?

If so to anticipate ...13L (paint code. For original silver) it is now water based is available from some outlets , but it is available in other codes if needed. Though it really is fine how it is isn't it. Enjoy.

Hi Fossie thanks for the welcome, yes this that very same bike you saw on eblob. I got in touch with him and made a deal for the Kat involving my Suzuki Kettle, the guy only lives 30 mile away from me in Chester. Thanks for the colour code which is now stored away in my rapidly expanding “info file” I’m unsure what to do about paint yet and I actually do like the red tank top. One more silly or not question?
There are press studs on either side of the seat which presumably was for a passenger seat strap? I’ve been told that only Japanese home market bikes had them fitted but I quite like the idea of fitting one to break up the seat outline. Have you any idea if they are still available and where or would I be better off having one made up.
TTFN and thanks, PaulD

The press studs are indeed for a seat strap , they where fitted to all but UK models.
The strap had fixings on the ends that fitted to shock absorber mounts and pressed on to seat via female studs.

They can be found though better from a German site .
I have an old one here you can copy if you feel the need.
I'm sure a photo will follow soon.

Thanks a photo with some dimensions would be great, there is one for sale on eBay at the moment but at £60 odd with postage I’m sure I can make one!
I’ve messaged Cat about membership but not had a reply as yet, she/he is probably still recovering from Christmas lol
