The great thing about having a kipper for breakfast is that you can enjoy the taste over and over again all day long. They do tend to repeat themselves....

In that case Germans say 'the herring gives paw'.

Don't ask.

The best place to cook kippers is in someone else’s house

The kipper thing is an old English saying "done up like a kipper" , it refers to being reeled in and left out to dry.. The smoked fish part is a red herring...another saying ...hey you'll get it one day....

*The kipper is a smoked fish eaten tradionally for breakfast ...though I've never meet anyone who does!*
thanks Fossie and JohnR - I only hope it doesn't get tiring explaining inside jokes to the Yankee. I love this site and love the learning curve, but don't want to be a burden.

Side note (Figured you knew this was coming) My father's name is Pryor, Mothers is Coggeshall. I think they are both super proper British. My father told me there are towns in the UK that have these same names.

Speaking of teaching, could you please explain to me the American voting system, especially the latest college thing and why it takes a year. The British system is not perfect but it's over and done with in a couple of weeks.

It's supposed to even up the states, taking into account their population I think.

It's also easier for Republicans to win (but not this time).

whoever loses claims it makes it easier for their opponent to win. i remember the dems claiming the electoral college made it easier for trump in 2016, which was in a way true, as he polled fewer votes than clinton but got the ec votes needed. the dems would have changed the ec system then if they could, but this time they wouldnt touch it. i guess the best way to win is to get more votes than the other guy. but trumps case is special in that he seems to have his head buried in the sand and is refusing to believe the count. not much you can do about that aside from a straight jacket and a white van........

Get more votes than the other guy is the usual system, ;) however the US system is unique to them because in some states they are like any other democracy and the one with most votes wins , but in other states the EC System means a state is split into more bits and the whole college ( why college , which they think is a university anyway , (except in this case when it means something no one can fathom! )
Bit like Yorkshire split up in to cities and everyone votes but Sheffield candidate wins by 1 vote so the whole of South Yorkshire voted for someone by 1 vote so the WHOLE of Yorkshire gets tagged as voting this way ..
We covered it at school once ....no one got it, much like the now! :D
Ultimately it don't matter because whoever's in charge can only do what the majority of backhanders will allow ......now that is just politics anywhere anyway .. :o
May as well just spun a coin.
