£50 is a get out :) unless its not his car and he's not insured so he's getting away with it all. push him for the details and of who the vehicle is registered to. I bet you a penny to a pound he's not insured....... hence the "offer"

JEZ ,JEZ ,JEZ. Your insurance excess hasn't have anything to do with the other persons claim . you only pay excess on the repair to your vehicle.
So don't think you are saving money by getting it done in house.
I know it may seem biast but many young p[eople up here are no properly insured.
You should have checked his tax disc to make sure it was the same as the no plate, espiecally as he had supossedly just picked it up.
Blix is correct I would be very wary of a rear end with another member of the family so soon on the scene.

Again the excess is no applicable unless you are repairing yours on insurance.

you will loose at most 30% of no claims .

Up to you but for £100 i would pay that , as you will be deamed at fault as you ran into him ,Unless you can get the insurance to investigate, but with no onjury claim they won't.

Ought over £100 get the insurance to deal with it.

Forgive my ignorance but as I said in 1st post I've never had to claim on insurance before.
So how does this work, I always thought that if you had a "dink" then the other driver could claim against you on your insurance so that you would effectively pay for their repairs all be it with your insurance policy, therefore you'd have to pay the excess on your policy for their repairs.
I'm only TPFT as it's my work van and 18yrs old and besides as I was only rolling forward at probs 2 mph if that, so there's no damage to the van & his car was only damaged as the bull bars hit him.
I've as yet not heard from them regarding the quote

Yours confused

if the guy you hit is dealing to get it done outside the insurance system, id smell a fooking BIG rat. chances are that if it were insured, it might not have been by him, lots of mohameds in some familys! id leave it to the ins company, and it will be a fair bet that the car wasnt insured for him to drive it.

NOT THIS INSTANCE BUT; Imagine the scenario ' insurance pay out everything bar the £250 that youthink you should be paying, you ain't got it, what happens then does he come round with the boys ????????
No jez the excess is only on what the insurance is paying you , on you policy that'll be in the event of a theft or fire claim.

I agree with John there is a fair chance that his insurance didn't cover him at the time (it may well do now!) espcieally as he said he had just picked it up.
Either way as I said before if you can agree a fair price , go with it, but make sure you get a signed witnessed agreement that that is the end of the matter.

Just an update, had a call from my insurance company earlier seems they've decided to go the insurance route, tho' they are saying that damage to rear end AND bumper
I told the ins man that it was bumper only & very minimal but seems now they just go by the rough area that's damaged and assess the cost from there   wasn't interested in my pics I took of damage...insurance has changed
He did make a note of my concerns on the file

On the plus side as I've no damage I won't pay the excess & I have protected no claims so I won't lose those. 8-)

Just a pain I'm going to have to declare the accident with my other policies, (bike & car)
