Oil Question
Getting to that stage in the rebuild now
Is there any problems with using Semi-Synthetic oil in the GSX engine.
I recall it not being a good idea to use Fully Synth as it causes clutch slip.
Any particular recommendations?
Cheers

Re: Oil Question
Fully synth is not good for wet clutch. I prefer using Motul 5100
Good luck!

Re: Oil Question
Asda is doing a deal on their own brand oil, 5 litres of 10W-40 for £10
Its all I use............No point putting expensive stuff in!

Re: Oil Question
true, the ONLY advantage in an engine like the kat of using semi synth oil is that you can leave it in for extended intervals, but if you are going to give it an oil change every year, then semi synth is a false economy.

Re: Oil Question
Thanks for the info, might run it on semi-synth for a while and see how it goes.

Re: Oil Question
Back in the day I used the cheapest oil I could find from AVIA bought in a 20 liter can. Got my Kat doin' more than 100.000 km with no probs whatsoever.

Re: Oil Question
I use Tesco Mineral 10w-40 in my Kat, but fully synth in my Ducati (dry clutch).

Re: Oil Question
i admit i have used mainly cheap oil in most of my bikes over the years
oil is oil right as long as it is the right grade
well there is the question
been told you shouldnt use engine oil designed for cars in motorcycle engines
as car oil containers friction modifiers which does not mix well with wet clutches
but never realy had a problem so make your own mind up
(probably start something with this one lol )

Re: Oil Question
i've always used standard car oil in my bikes
even obruts
used to use duckhams and never had a problem then went on to castrol, same
oil is oil,
its only if you don't change it regularly or are pushing the engine to its limits that you need anything more special
and even if you use fully synth £*** you need to keep it topped up, sorry pip
