Christmas cheer

Post by uber pikey » Wed Dec 21, 2011 4:52 pm

Just to pre warn you there are some graphic pictures.

I joined a few months ago now but not long after I joined my poor dog got run over, I didn't realy know anybody on the site well so I kept it to myself.

Anyway.....late October-half term(children off from school) I came home from work to find my kids wasting their lives sat on their butts watching crap on TV so I made them take the dog for a walk. 10 mins later I get a distressed phone call off my daughter saying "the dog has been run over", I quickly got in the car to find the kids, didn't take long but when I got there I could see the dog was in a bad way( his name is Bryn by the way).

I managed to fumble him into the back of my car and could tell that he had snapped his lower jaw clean in half, not only that but his left side had taken most of the damage. A 4x4 was driving through the lane and Bryn has always stayed at the side of the road until the vehicle goes past, which he did but didn't see the trailer attached behind it with a digger on the back.....

Not much cheer so far is there!

The vet took him in and x-rayed him and rang me the next day with bad news. He had said that the fracture was beyond his capabilities and that he couldn't save Bryn as there was no way he could garentee his quality of life. I was in the man cave at the time on my own so managed to compose myself after 20 mins and made my way back to the house to tell the wife the bad news.

We sat down together and I started telling her what the vet had said. Mid flow I get a call from the vet stating that he found a specialist who might be able to save him........the plot thickens.

Bare with me.

I had to collect the dog from the vet, one over night stay 2 x-rays and one injection of morphine that will be £430.18p please...robbing cnuts.
I transfered him to his new vet who quickly assesed him and then prepped him for theatre, he was under the knife for 6 hours on the Friday and by Friday night Bryn was the proud owner of a stainless steel face brace mmmmmmm

Well that was 7 weeks ago now and after weeks of spoon feeding(yes we spoon fed him) he had his mandible brace removed and is near full health again.
He had his final check up today and all clear, there is still more recovery to do with the bone reforming but no more tablets and no more spoon feeding which is good right! He started to get too used to that I can tell you lol.

I now have to convince the children that he is their main prezzy for christmas, you might be thinking ahh but insurance covered that....nope no insurance £2k

I have to say though I would pay it twice over as we have Bryn back :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I feel for you mate, when you have a dog that you love it's very difficult not too do everything you can for them. The main thing is he's now getting back to full health.

Glad to hear that Bryn's on the mend, it's always a trying time when one of your pets is poorly but especially with what happened to Bryn.
