Led Indicators

Post by kiwi k » Sat May 10, 2014 7:19 pm

Right tried a forum search and got nothing :(

So my question is My little 750 baby Kat passed it's Mot this week, but got advised no indicators (legally not required).
But yes i was going to install Mini Led indicators just because i feel safer, so being as the Kat has a indicator relay can i just replace that with a 12volt Led flasher relay and then fit Led indicators, and will they then flash as normal.

Most of the internet searching i have done leads me to belive i'm right

So to Ash or anyone else who has allready done Led indicators can you please CONFIRM if i'm right  .

As I understand the LED indicators will work but the flash rate will be very fast.
This is due to the low current draw making the relay think there is a lamp failed.

The cure is to fit load resistors in-line with the indicators to bring the load current back up to the original level.

Or you can opt for a LED specific relay.

Or 3 pin

Both fairly common items on weEvil BAY or go to someone like Deamon Tweaks*

Waiting for a "Bus" to take me to Norwich so can't go and check what the pin config is as I've forgotten

yes, some chinese scooters have led indicators as stock and so have the relays to suit, rather than buying a specific relay for led indicators, you could get a chinese scooter relay for just a couple of quid. last one i bought was from a lifan and cost me £1.75!!

When I changed mine i did the rear first and fitted resistors then when I got round to doing the front I got a new relay (from here http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/V ... mepage.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) which plugged straight in as a replacement for the old one.
