Anyone know how to remove old steering lock? Do you have to remove the steering stem? I have a new one to fit but don't know how to do it! haynes manual is quite quiet on that task...

Hey Rob.
The little brass cover is held on to the frame by a rivet that has a spiral "thread" on it. You need to lever it out then the cover comes off and the lock can be removed. I found it easier to use a key to get a grip of the lock and some WD40 to aid removal.
If you fit a new one the little rivet maybe re-usable .
You should not need to remove the steering stem.

Thanks for info. I can see from the new one that the little rivet is just a press fit now. Not sure the old would come out that easily after being in there 30 years, with out drilling. Not much to grab to lever it out.
Also I have no key (hence why new one) so I think the only way to remove once cover is off is as Bobster says and drill. I'm thinking I will bugger at least one of those processes up! Might leave not sure, I'm only being anal about everything working...
