Something different for me a 4 stroke

Post by HowardRD » Sat Jan 20, 2018 10:17 am

Morning guys, and hello from a new owner of a old school katana 1100 ,I'm old enough to know better at 54 and live in West Yorkshire this is my first big old Suzuki my usual bikes are Yamaha RD350LC and RD400 which I have owned over 300 of these over the last 35 years.
Don't know why I bought this bike as I was looking for another Buell S1W but I just liked the aftermarket parts fitted to this bike , well most of them and thought it would be a decent user and make my mind up later which direction to go, don't like the seat or exhaust.

I saw that advertised. That was a good price IMO for a katana with those extras. You also cant go wrong with Yamaha 2 strokes :-) . Welcome to the club

Saw this , thought it looked interesting. As has been said if the work is as good as the mods promise, should be a nice machine. 80's paint scheme adds to period look.

Will probably attract more discussion when parked than a Buell would ;)
Is the reg KAT if so was it regeristering in Hull in 1983 or is it a personal plate? :ugeek:
Eitherway welcome to the forum. We have a few members in Yorkshire.

The exhaust is a very long Vance and Hines which I don't really like , reg KAT was put on the bike in 1994 but the bike was imported in 1986 and I have all the MOT from that date , it's only covered 400miles in the last 15 years.
I've had my first ride on it today and it's nice and smooth with lots of grunt but very long and heavy compared to my LC's so my plan is to use it as it is before I spend any time or money and if it doesn't suit it can go.
Just changed the oil and filter ( had to take the exhaust off to get to sump plug ) and renewed plugs and caps too , I'll get the carbs off for a clean when it warms up a little then get them balanced.

Mirrors, bars, indicators, footrests. Other than that it's a great looking bike. Seat is different but not life threatening. Shorten the can if need be or leave as is. Good to know there's another on this side of the hills.
Maybe we could form a raiding party!

I agree with bars , mirrors, footrest and indicators ,I would like to shorten the pipe and lift the end can too, going to try and fix these issues on a budget in case I'm not happy with it.
Are the Marshall short pipes any good , look like old school Piper etc ?

I love the old V&H pipes but I agree this one looks too long and low. You could try Dan on here to see if he could work his magic and cut and weld it a bit higher and shorter? I think he is Atherton Creative engineering.
