GSX1100SD rocker cover gasket

Post by Uncle Bob » Mon Jan 29, 2018 3:17 pm

The part number for this is 11173-49222 which is superseded by 11173-49224-H17. This I think is a 20 hole gasket.
As usual the genuine ones (checked at Robinsons) are expensive (£42) compared to other countries (Partzilla $25)! I've bought parts from partzilla before and got away with the Royal Mail rip off admin fee but it's always a gamble.

I need to get one - should I go genuine or pattern and if so any recommendation for best price?

I need to get the sump gasket as well 11489-49200 superseded by 11489-49201-H17. Wemoto do a pattern one which I might try as I need some other things from them.

IMO pattern are ok for the paper gaskets, but I would always use a genuine head gasket and any seals. £42 is ridiculous.

SD is 24 hole rob isn't it?
May be sacrilege but I bought one off eBay when I needed to do my O-rings a couple of years ago. Think it was either cometic or Athena. Still going strong anyway. Round the £25 mark.

That's what I thought, but that part #11173-49224-H17 brings up:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUZUKI-GSX750 ... 1607969200

and I counted 20 holes in that (I think!). Is that correct? I checked some others and it seemed the same. Would like to confirm.

Maybe buy gasket paper and copy your old one. Its not like that gasket is under a lot of pressure

I just typed Suzuki gsx1100 valve cover gasket into eBay and came up with a lot of possible suspects. Weren't the 24 hole ones for extra security round the camchain tunnel area?

The one I linked to has the 4 extra bolt holes around the cam chain tunnel and the part numbers tie up. I have my old one from the other bike in the garage so I'll go and check when I get a chance.

I did have to make the genny cover gasket on my GT200 X5 (as not available) a few years back so bought the gasket paper and some different sized hole punches, but if I can get something for £25 then I'll go that route.

There just don't seemed to be any Vesrah or Athena importers / suppliers in the UK - can get them in other countries but after postage there is no point really.

That link shows a 24 bolt gasket from the later engines. The extra bolts, as far as Iknow were to resolve an issue with oil weeping from around the cam chain area.

Here’s a Suzuki one:

Or from the Fens, here’s a Cometic version:
