Oil in air filter

Post by Tonykat » Sun Jul 24, 2022 2:24 pm

Hi, on my 250 I noticed the breather pipe from the top of engine to the air box has been extended to go into the air box at the rear, when I removed the filter, there was a pool of oil at the bottom. I am thinking that the reason for the diversion is to stop the filter been covered in oil, I thought it would of been sucked back into the engine before it got to the filter, is this oil normal.

IT is normal, just wipe it away , it's just vapour that when goes cold returns to its more solid form .
It is also a means of catching dust .
Btw the 250 oil filters are slightly different from more normal ones .
I just happen to have about 10 and no 250 anymore .
Should you wish to build a stock of have another ready , PM your address and make donation to the club PayPal address or what ever you wish and I'll post the required amount .
This applies to other poor souls ;) ( 250 owners  )

Thank you for your answer fossie, do you mean air filters? I could do with one for the future.

Had my 250 Kat for over eight years now (where does all the time go?) i've got the breather tube from the rocker cover but it only goes into the front of the airbox, the 250 air filter is supposed to have a vacuum cleaner attachment looking piece of plastic on top of it that acts like an air scoop, mine came with a metal frame and a washable foam element but I have replaced it with a paper element from a GS500 and

hasn't been a problem

Oil filters ...the air filters are like the Gs500 but with a flute which we had made, but the've all gone now . My 400 had a piece of Vax Hoover tube Which worked super .
