thing with engines is its caveat emptor. if you know what all the parts are and what they do, then go look and get inside to look, if you dont know what everything does and what you need to be looking at, then just buying based on a list posted by the seller is a huge risk. the only way to know its all done right is to do it yourself. but theres more to performance than a list of trick parts.

Yup,as John says,if you know what you're looking at then go look.
Receipts for work carried out help but aren't a guarentee.

If you're not sure then you have a choice to make on whether you trust the seller or not.
Also, you'll never get your money back on tuning. An engine can cost thousands to put together depending on how deep your pockets are. There's an old saying in racing 'how fast can you afford to go??'
However as a guide,a big bore kit is around 4-500quid plus any machining needed and it goes on from there. But a 1260 that's knackered is just as bad (if not worse) than a standard bore that's knackered so I'd be more tempted to check all the basics like 'is it burning oil' etc.

Others will have an opinion but you'll be lucky to get an 11 lump (in any condition) for less than 300 quid now.

What we're saying here is it's difficult to assess but don't bust the bank over it.
