Splitting brake callipers

Post by Hootsy » Mon Feb 13, 2017 11:09 am

I'm rebuilding a pop-up and getting the calipers stripped and repainted will probably be easier if I split the two halves. I know this is not a good idea with some calipers, so does anyone know if it's ok to split the calipers on a pop-up? If so, are there any requirements when reassembling them? Thanks!

It is perfectly OK to split pop up calipers, just remember the little rubber washer between the 2 haves , with out it they won't work , to this end make sure th recess where it fits doesn't get blocked .

I found that the small '0' ring gets very compressed so I would have some replacements ready, just in case.
