Hmh, saw that arm-over-stacks-technique at HRC racers with de-activated choke. I take it the bike behaved back in the days, or is that carb recently aquired?

have you re-jetted it for running without filters? have you checked the compression on the engine? running without filters shortens engine life considerably. if your compression is low then its going to be a struggle to start.

Mine really struggles to run , let alone start without having the rear airbox fitted.
So if you are trying to start on the standard 95# jets and no airbox you'll struggle!

when you took the carbs off, did you stuff rags down the inlets, did you remove them???
