Jacked off!!!!

Post by fossie » Sun Sep 18, 2011 10:15 pm

Why can't people do what they say they are going to do?????
A general statement I know but........................
Bare with me , This poxy 400 of mine, Bloke up the road said he would ultrasonic the carbs for me while he was undoing the screws I couldn't get to budge.
he didn't! No matter 'cos at this point we discovered the extent to which the were worn , ( Needles snapped after woearing out, slide bodies worn through and at a 30dgree angle.)
So they were given to a proffessional chap whom I know well as do many others , with no problems. I gave them to him with a few spare carbs from Dave W ,as some of my castings were dodgy . he wanted to do them so he could photo and research them for future reference. No one is believed to have do 110.000 on a 400 Gsxr /kat recently. He would ultrasonic them and build them up with new 'o'rings. :o
That was 3 months ago . Got them back and fitted this weekend, spent a few hours fannying about . remote tank , spare battery . nadda , back fire, back pressure through airbox, no start.
Oh forgot ! NO he didn't Ultrasonic them, they looked clean enough :x :x :x

The reason for this rant is , I 'm jacked off, so jacked off that maybe this 400 is finished . Can't be arsed with carbs.

So is anyone interested, I will need to recoup the new parts costs
New carb needles from Japan £60
New stainless brake pistons and new seals about £100
The bike has a 4-1 Yoshimura system worth about £250
replacement discs, newish tyres .
So there is the dilemma , too expensive as a spares or repairs bike, don't want to break it unless everyone wants bits at the same time as I will be left with a frame and bits , which will be both heartbreaking and frusttrating taking up space.

backpressure through the airbox would say valve timing or a stuck valve to me fossie.

it ran perfectly OK when I took the carbs off ,Although I couldn't travel at 30-50 mph smooth as ought after that up to 112mph.

It started ok when I put the carbs on after the first chap looked at them, but he set the airscrews too high ( shoulda checked Doh! and I couldn't get to them ( as they are underneath.)

Callyboy another set of carbs from a breaker will mean I'm going to have to ultrasonicaly clean them first to be sure . But thats what started this piggy mess.

No to night I will rip the f******** carbs off again , Try and cadge a cleaner and do 'em myself ( Which I should have done , but at the time I was doing 14 hrs aday. Contract cancelled now so back on open channel , earlier finish for 1/2 the money.)

If they make it to the bench without being booted out of the garage door, it'll be a bonus.

and not being too pedantic fossie, id say you were hacked off, not jacked off, saying you payed a man good money and he jacked you off will certainly raise eyebrows in some places!!!!!

There was no mention of money , Didn't pay him , , this was the problem I gave them to him as a job but he insisted on mates rates so he could study and photo them etc.
So obviously they got put behind the paying jobs, which wasn't my intention.

fossie, I have a big untrasonic tank, 30l, get a bank of four carbs in complete easy. If you can stand the postage send them to me & I'll give them a good cleaning for you. Just done my kat thou ones, pics below inlcudes some extra work on peripherals and they were completely stripped internally and all O rings & gaskets replaced but you get the idea.

Well thank you peoples , Kryten has offered to take these carbs out to middle of the north sea with him, where he was going to dip them in a great expanse of water. I assumed an ultrasonic tank but maybe he was just going to hoy them over board! BUT he can't do that till October.

So if it's ok I'll send 'em to Richie mouse , 'cos my should have looked like the second picture but look like the first.

To be honest john I don't know what they need , they are now a set made up of 2 or 3 , so they could well have been standing for years, and all the internals blocked, the only way to eliminate that is U/S cleaning.

I'm going to have to strip them to ensure they are as they should be anyway.

What did you set the pilot air jet at on the 400 you did , the manual says 1.75 turns out.

I'll get them packed for the weekend if thats OK Richiemouse ( That way they'll think it's a holiday and won't suspect anything until it's too late :? :?: )
