Need advice on cars

Post by callyboy » Mon Nov 07, 2011 7:39 pm

My P reg Previa is a super MPV. Loads of space and great for the kids and bikes etc. Only problem is the bloody MPG. Its only doing about 12-15 mpg which means my £20 a go at the pumps gets me all of 50 miles

I dont think there is anything wrong with it. It may benefit from a new set of lambda sensors i spose, but it still will drink the fuel.

So............any suggestions for a replacement ? obviously need room for the kids(4) and another 2 at least. Estate ? Needs to be cheap on insurance as well.

I was thinking maybe a estate car ?

Any suggestions welcome.

Agree with FBJ but don't get the petrol or the automatic though.
The Zafira is a good bit of kit if you stick to diesel and above 05 plate, I have one.

We're just doing the same, the wifes 2.0l mondeo likes to drink the fuel and the she mostly does a mile here and a mile there.. We've put a deposit down on a 1.8tdci c-max, £115 per year cheaper on road tax and will do probably twice the miles to a tank..

If you go for deisel try and avoid anything with a DMF(dual mass flywheel) and DPF/FAP (deisel partical filter) pain in the arse and expensive WHEN the go.

I 've go a 03 Focus tddi nice simple turbo deisel, there's loads about, i reckon the 1.8tddi ghia or zetec estate would work for you.

Shame the LEZ will kick in next year, or you could have had my Caravelle.

740 miles to the last tank (80 litres), and takes 2 bikes :D.

got a zafira diesel loads of room and the extra seats in the back nicely hide in the floor
fuel economy well brilliant compared to my old subaru impreza
as for estate car audi a4/a6 lovely car diesel fantastic but not the v6 when it goes wrong
or volkswagon touran

what size engine in your previa is it petrol or diesel have you had better economy previesly
as they are known to be a bit thirsty
could try a good injector cleaner before anything else

and anyway £20 gets you bugger all at the pumps anymore
probably cheaper to fill up with best scotch whiskey lol

Cheers guys.

Previa is a 2.4 petrol automatic. They are known to be thirsty. So with petrol going up and up it aint going to get any better. did whack some injector cleaner in (although it was a cheaper one). been told the silver bottle stp is the best ?

Not got much money either :(
