black engine paint recomendation?

Post by sparki » Tue Dec 13, 2011 5:42 pm

i'm going to need to paint an engine in the coming months so thought i'd get some in... always used PJ1 Satin Black as it does what i want it to.... only problem being is that it doesn't appear to be available anymore! i'm not painting it silver 'cos i don't like it/want to so what black is good? i see folks on about hammerite smoothrite silver as being good but their black isn't advertised as gloss/satin/matt so i don't know what kind of sheen it's going to have; and to be honest i'd rather leave it as it than paint it gloss black! ;)

ebay shows me this stuff... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VHT-SATIN-BLA ... 3a699a241a" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VHT-SP139-SAT ... 19cadf4c37" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; if anyone has any experience?

doubt it really matters as black satin is black satin.... just cant bear matt or gloss on an engine.. :D

Not sure if it's relevant to this particular paint but 'the missus' works in the paint supply business and there's loads of paints and paint stripper etc being discontinued at the moment because of the supposedly toxic content. It's to do with the solvents etc. Nitromors is a good example as, although still available, it's utterly useless. However its new recipe is eco-friendly.

It's disappearance might have something to do with that.

Phoned Crooks Suzuki this morning and they dont have any left either!

Asked why they cant get hold of it anymore and Martin said that there was a problem with labelling of the cans as there was some COSHH issues. Supposedly there are cases of PJ1 stuck in some customs warehouse somewhere.
..............when they get released is anyones guess!

I actually found a full can in my paint stash.............but I think I will be keeping hold of it until the prisoners get released or we find a replacement!
