Here we go again....or not

OK so i got a new battery, reg/rec and stator. The stator was replaced recently and the reg/rec under warranty both from Electrex.

All of this new stuff and im still getting 18volts to the battery just at idle speed. Just out of curiousity I experimented with running the stator through the loom then direct to the reg/rec and it was still the same.

Could it be the wrong stator thats sending out too high voltage?

I'll call Electrex to see what they have to say but if anyone has any ideas that would be a great help.

regardless of the stator, if its going through a reg rec, then it should be coming out of the reg rec at 14ish volts, 18v is definately too high. i take it you are getting 18v DC at the battery? and you arent trying to check it on the AC scale?

Oh John you almost made me feel like i was having a blonde moment there but yes i definately have the multimeter set to DC.

Is this a standard 5 wire Suzuki type rectifier?

This may sound stupid, but have you checked your multimeter ? sometimes a low battery gives dodgy readings.

Yeah its the standard reg/rec.

I have been testing various other things with the multimeter just to check that its working correctly and all seems to be OK>

Im waiting to hear back from a sparky bloke on the OSS site who helped me with some stoof before.

He suggested to swap the 3 yellow wires and test the voltage in each config. They could be fitted in the incorrect order.

There is no correct order for the yellow wires, it work the same which ever way you connect them.

Yeah i assumed that was the case as i just tried it and nothing happened. If anything its pushing more volts.
