pilot screw stuck

hi all ive got 2 pilot screws stuck in a set of 1100 m carbs had them soaking in diesel and pluss gas for weeks with no luck has any one got any ideras of how to shift them thanks in advance dave

Hi Dave

I had the same problem with the carbs for Skruffy Kat.

In the end had to resort to a combination of good enginering practice and a bit of Brutality. After that it would have been a case of getting very Medieval with them!

I found a decent impact wrench set with a selection of flat bladed bits. Selected the best fitting bit, making sure that there was no movement in the slot of the pilot screw head.

Then I set the carbs up on a good strong piece of wood clamped in a Black and Decker Workmate (other workbenches are available).

Then with the impact wrench set firmly in the screw slot, this is the bit Callyboy will like, I gave it a right T**t with a hammer

This worked well with no damage to the carbs or surprisingly with the Pilot Screw. The problem is that corrosion builds up down the recess that they sit in and grips the screw head.

I must admit that I was a bit concerned about the end result.

My thing I would never ever give advice to people (other than Don't Ask Me) is how and when to use screw/stud extrractors!

thanks for the advice lads sounds a bit brutal but ive got a full set of big hammers so will have give it a go

Your fault was: you obviously didn't tell him to strike home and not be off the mark.
