The 400 impulse is a different kind of CDI ,as like the older GS just a trigger. The 90's Cdi became a transistor type of box with cut out switches for switches and and speed , rev limiters , also the cdi box alters the revs , when hot/cold, which is why they are so finnicky.

Ok lads,

I am coming back to live with this. I am pushing the bike everyday as it won't start otherwise when cold.

So I am thinking the battery could be a bit low however it more then 12V at the voltmeter so it should be alright.

I am planing to get a look at the earth and all to make sure there is not any funny bits.

Do you have any idea what could cause this?

I am tired of pushing it, I need to sort this out.

Thanks

12v at the battery means nothing. its not the voltage, its the cranking amperage. ive a battery in my voltage tester thats got 12.5volts, but it wont start a bike. if it goes flat quick, or spins the motor slowly, then its had it. id go for a motobatt one, theyre comparable with mid range lead acid, but better built, sealed, guaranteed and put out more cranking current.

all of that is very interesting, so this is the plan for the weekend.

- Change the battery, I bought one last week but did not have time to fit it.
- Do a valve clearance to make sure it is all ok.
- Remove the carbs and change the last seal I did not change last time.
- Ultrasonic clean them.
- Synchro

I will then test the sparks plug, do make sure I get a good spark.

Is there a distinct mark to get the engine to TDC? I checked the manual but the pics is a bit hard to see.
I just need to remove the rocker cover and then I have access to the valve, Obiviously I need to put the engine in TDC first.
When you do a valve clearance lads are you changing the rocker cover seal?

Another question about the HT lead can I use any generic one ?

Thanks for the help, it is time to get this sorted :-)

valves , you don't need tdc , just check each one at it's most open point.
Rocker gasket is rubber and reusable. Layer of grease before refitting to engine and it will stay in place and be usable again.
I do mine at 50.000km's.
Plag leads , they are screw in so any lead will do if it's tight enough.
When checking plugs for sparks , remove both plugs that are on that coil otherwise the spark may be weak to the naked eye as it finds the best earth as both spark at the same time.

Thanks fossie,

I need to reduce the possibility on this one, I am pushing for way to long. :-)
