Well I fucking give up :( I dont know what it is with me sometimes, but I just dont have much luck with some things. Maybe I just aint cut out to mess with engines, but What should be a easy job always turns into a nightmare.

Being a cheap skate i bought the cheapest carb balancer i could get (plastic tubes and ball bearing one-doesnt matter, coz i never got to the able to use it satge!!!) anyway....having eventually got the frigging bolt out of the carb rubber boot (small space - big hands) from underneath!!!!(why is it underneath???).

Could i screw the balancer valve in ????? no i frigging couldnt :( could screw it into the outside one, but not the 2nd carb on the inside. After about an hour i gave up. Put the tank back on and thought i would see what she was running like (had swapped the clutch out and put a new cable in) seemed ok but she is running well hot. whipped out a plug and it was white as hell. I had checked the air screws on all 4. How many turns out ? maybe not done enough as it was never running this hot before. I did 1 1/2 - should it be more ?(update - now done em to 2 turns).

Also, the oil leak from the cam end caps has started again :(

Going to stick with my Impulse - for all her uglyness at least she runs good :)

Pete :(

Hi Pete,

I know that feeling touching stuff without been sure :-)
could you get me a pics of the carbs and synchro tool? I will try to help you mate.

I bought my synchro tool 7 years ago for about €20-30, it is just 4 gauges nothing fancy but it does the job.

To put the little rubber pipe in I use usually a plier as my hand are not small neither, I also put the tank on a chair or something on the side
and get some extension pipe to connect the whole lot.

For the screw and all I use a small racket with extension to get to them otherwise it is not really possible.
I found small racket very useful especially on bike, you can probably get one for €10-€20 at the most.

Don't worry you can do it Pete!! it is only few bolts and nuts!!!

Are the connector screw on, or simply rubber? If the rubber is not flexible enough you can boiled the kettle to get them moving more.

Watcha Arnaud,

the carb inlet rubber has a metal threaded insert hole. This is normally plugged up with a bolt. The balance kit i bought has a plastic connector that threads into this hole. Trouble is- it DONT thread. Cheap crap i spose :( never mind. Live and learn eh :)

Pete calm down.
The way to do it is attach a piece of pipe to the connector before trying to fit the connector ,then use the pipe as a screw driver.
This must done cold 'cos as you know , it's too hot else. Then leave the pipe on and blank it off when not in use so you can do it again in 6000 miles ( No you'd best take it off again.!) ;)
