Tried to start the (cough) Impulse today. Not getting a spark at any spark plugs
Got a multimeter. where do i need to poke it ( watch it !!!) and what should i be getting with regards values ?
Was wondering if its an earth problem again ? Powdercoated frame not earthing coils ?
Very sad
Pete
PS- I did swap the coils over for some other ones when i was doing the rebuild. Do you think i should put the original ones back on ? (the reason i swapped was that the original coils were both differant - but they did work !!!).

Gotta be a good starting point Pete by refitting the coils that you know work.

Make sure the coils are earthed to the frame where they are bolted on, use some emery /sand paper and rub /scrape away the powder coating.
Also check the kill switch is switched to ON and working. You need +12Volts at coils terminals on orange wires ( switched live). Also check the wiring from the ignition pickups is connected and all block connectors are clean and not corroded.
And dont forget the fire extinghisher......................

What negative wires are they then Pete?
You asked for help an I have given you the help you need! You just need to act on it !
The coils have a primary and secondary circuit , or High and Low tension. The Iron coil body has to be earted to the frame, the high tension is triggered by the ignition pickups via the CDI.
Had the same problem in Switzerland when 1 of Flo's Dyna coils failed and the lads tried a suzuki coil but didnt earth it so It looked like it was also fooked.....once it was earthed all was hunky dory!
Now get the paint scraped of like a good little Callyboy...........
God luck!

ok, starting at the start.
battery on?
ignition on?
lights on the clocks on? particularly the neutral light, some jap bikes had interlocks to stop them firing up in gear,
press the starter and engine spins?
check all your fuses next, dont forget the one on the solenoid, some bikes have them, some dont.
check that everything is plugged in, particularly the pickups to the cdi,
yes to all these? ok, firstly, has the bike got a sidestand switch? if so, disconnect it and throw it as far away as you can! theyre rubbish! even when new.
now, you get your multimeter and check that you have power to your coils whenever you switch the ignition on. next you need to check the wiring diagram and find out which is the live power feed to the cdi box, check with the multimeter if there is power to the cdi.
then come and tell us what you have found
