Bum!
I took the 400 out for a blast this evening and I fear I've left it sitting around for too long.
Got the 3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-4-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-4 at tickover and it wont rev out now in any higher gear than 2nd.
Oh, it blew a fork seal as well.
Roll on the end of June, I'm going to spend a week at the lockup just fixing all the bikes.

Re: Bum!
No ! drain plugs out , leave them out.
OR get the device called fuel cat which is a cage of lead pellets that you drop into your tank and it dissolves turning your unleaded into leaded petrol .

Re: Bum!
machine mart and ebay sell fuel stabiliser, its designed for petrol engines that are stored unused for long periods of time without being used. it stops the aromatics from the fuel from being evaporated off, stops gumming and stops fuel from going stale. its designed for stuff like boats, campervans, lawnmowers and building equipment like generators whacker plates chainsaws stihlsaws etc that might not be run for a few months. ive used it and it works, ive also mentioned it here several times and nobody has taken the hint!! perhaps you all just like taking 400 carbs to bits!!
i think callyboy should buy it by the gallon as he never uses any of his!!!!
et voila,

Re: Bum!
Just a quick (possibly stupid) question on this stuff John, do you need to drain the tank when you want to use the bike again or does it just burn with the (hopefully) still functioning fuel?

There's a place that I drive past every day that sells the real 4 star fuel, it's £1.92 a litre, but I think I'll get some for the bike.

There's some near you too.

I've got the splutter sort of fixed (needs some fresh fuel in it to make sure) and will get round to the fork seals in a week or so.

Re: Bum!
you dont drain it out, you put it in a full tank prior to storage, and it keeps the fuel stable for up to 2 years so that you could use it at any time and not have a problem with stale fuel.
