Front Master Cylinder

Post by Kryten » Wed May 23, 2012 4:23 pm

Hi

I'm trying to sort out my front master cylinder on my SZ/S1

I took the item offshore to ultra sonic clean and stripped out the piston/seals.

Safe in the knowledge that I had a genuine Suzuki spares kit at home I appear to have disposed of the old items.

Item #1

http://www.robinsonsfoundry.co.uk/conte ... tercyl.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It would seem that the piston carrier/bearing on the new kit has a square profile that is greater than the bore of the cylinder on my item.

Having decided that it was scrap after the new kit was part fitted byy me (Doh!) :oops: I have sent it to a CMM advertiser to have a look at. They also said that they could replace the sight glass as well.

Having spoke to the people carrying out the work, they have come to the same conclusion that I have.

That is the master cylinder on my bike may not be original. Although as a Japan Home Market Model it maybe.

There was no indication that it had been replaced as it is a standard Kat looking part, and was in the same state of corrosion as the rest of it.

I'm thinking that for the seal kit to fit, it must be counter-bored for the carrier/bearing to seat into. Thus allowing the circlip to the fix it in place. I don't have another Kat item spare to look at.

Anybody got any thoughts on this one?

Right. I didn't fling the old bits!

The old item had a one piece piston/seal item that has a "Screw" form along its length.

I've now sent these to said specialist and will await his verdict.

I did of course forget to photograph them before packing and posting.

But....
