Re: Greetings folks ;O)
Bloody hell Pete,
your a star! I have loads of info and spec numbers etc. Happy give you a call if that's ok mate? Starting point is my loom has 2 connectors not the single 12 pin one that the GSF400N has ( dependant on year), and one plug has 4 pins whilst the other has 6. I know not every model uses every pin, and I think mine's only using 2 of the wires on the 4 pin multi plug. A few folk have told me the Impulse CDi fits so hey, fingers crossed.
I'll leave this thing connected if you'd sooner post details on here, or text me and I'll ring you back bud.

Many thanks, Mark :O) :O)

Hold your horses Mark. It does have 2 plugs but mine is the early 1986 Impulse. So you may be stuffed ? attached are a couple of pics.If you want i can look on my bike and tell you what wires are going where. If you still want to try it i can post up to you for a trial run. Let me know. I am sure someone will be along soon to advice.

What ya reckon ?

Pete, thanks mate, really appreciate the help. Not sure which wires are not used off the top of my head, the bike's in a bike dealers workshop so I'm going on the both models being engine series K711. Years and registration years are so vague. The Kat was built in 1989 but not released till 1991 according to some Japanese sites, and came across a 400 Kat on an Aussie site today that listed a 1992 bike but stated it was manufactured in 1989 in Japan. Hmm, looks promising though, 6 and 4 though 2 not used ! That'd give me the 4 and 4 . Just PM'd one of the guys on here (sorry, cant remember his name) who has both an Impulse AND a Kat and asked if he knew if they are the same mate. Told him you have offered me your spare for sale so hopefully be able to tell you for sure. It's bloody great so many folk on here are so happy to try and help. Thanks mate, keep you posted

No worries. That will be Jez (Katman). He knows loads about the Impulse although like i said mine is a !986 Impulse and he has the later model that is more like a retro GS550. My bike has a GK71E engine. If you wanna give it a try your more than welcome to.
Here's a pic of my bike:

Hi Mark, welcome to the mad house. Another 400 owner
Unfortunately the 400 Kat has 6 connectors on right block don't ask what they're for as I too am no sparky & I can't read Japanese.
Do you have a link for the site with all the bling?
I have an account on yahoo japan auction site & some sellers will ship outside japan...tho' not enough.

Pistols at dawn you cadBlix wrote:Just for info Mark your bike is a GSX400SSN, not to be confused with a GSX400S which I think was one of those poxy impulse things
Hey Mark, just thought how to solve your problem. Buy another 400 and just keep swapping the CDI over till you can find another one. Most people on here have a garage full of bikes. Some more than others

Hey Pete,
no worries mate I've got a plan.............................did you see where I put it???
Ironically bud it all serves me right you see, I only need to whip the engine out of my 900R and sort the head gasket out but it's a bit awkward where I live to leave anything in bits so it's just not happened. Anyway, she's only done 12,200miles from new and is 27 years old, so I thought what the hell, I'll bung another engine in for now and rebuild her properly, you know, balance the pistons, shot-peen the rods and slot the cam pulleys.
To cut a long story short mate, I was trying to cut a long lay up short, and when I went to look at another engine, there was this coy little Kitten peeping at me from the corner of the bike shop's Mot bay. Well sod me, that's the last time I'm ever going to cut a f**king story short again lol. All this research for a tub of electric serves me right for being impatient and lazy in the first place.
The moral of the story ?
Hell hath no fury like a bike scorned ;O)
Catch you later Bill n Ted
Cheers,
Mark

The restrictor is actually in the speedo when the needle reaches 112mph it cuts the power to cdi for a moment, until it drops below etc.
If you need a cdi we believe Electrix has have redone one , never sen it but a chap who ran SOW.uk had it done.
Biggest problem is the carbs with 400's the jets are small and clog up easy when left, espiecally the starter circuit.
Oh and hi!
