Why I like the silver beastie
Why I like the silver beastie
I look out of the window (when its not raining and my bikes not in a plastic bag), and the clean jet fighter lines make me feel good. I am not sure quite how, or what it actually satisfies in me, it just does. It is the two wheeled equivalent of a Hawker Hunter, not perfect, far from a top performer in modern terms, but a good honest machine that goes exactly like it looks - long and fast, and great in smooth sweeping turns.
It may not be the fastest from 0-60 any more, but it is certainly one of the quickest from 0 - happy, and there are few people who can go from 0 - crazy faster than a Katana riding middle aged crisis.
I still get a little bit excited when its time to go home in the evening, grab my helmet, head for the door to do battle with the scooter riding Eurotrash (sorry you "stylish" French and Italians - scooters are just not cool, not even in an Armani suit with a hot girl on the back) and ease from the lights slowly with a mature nod too a guy on a modern superbike I know I can't match, until he is round the corner then I blow the scooter monkeys out the way with a roar from the beast and catch the plastic riders at the next lights. Perhaps that is because my job is mind numbingly boring, but I don't think so.
Finally, the appreciative nod from those in the know, of a certain age, and some younger chaps, is proof enough that buying one of these bikes is not madness, it is at worst mild eccentricity, and it reminds me of my teenage years when all I wanted was a silver katana, and that girl with the particularly fine....

Re: Why I like the silver beastie
Please forward that onto Fossie and get him to put it it he next issue of "the pride"... I think you've just put into words what we all feel about our Kats. Summed up perfectly. It would be a shame for those members who don't frequent the forums to miss out on it...colonial wrote:I look out of the window (when its not raining and my bikes not in a plastic bag), and the clean jet fighter lines make me feel good.
