they were a tenner, doesnt that tell you something? theyre shit. the world and his wife moved away from the 16 inch front wheel because they dont handle and because you couldnt get the right tyres for them. and its much worse now. nobody uses 16 inch fronts because they are too twitchy and you will pay top dollar for a decent tyre for it because very few firms list anything decent. why are you trying to make your bike even worse? throw them in a skip and next time you have a tenner burning a hole in your pocket, buy some lotto tickets!!callyboy wrote:Wahoo onto to page 3 !!!
Ok my hunt for a correct size bearing would appear to have hit a wall![]()
I need a bearing with a 15mm bore 40mm diameter and 12mm width. Cant seem to find anything that size. However i did find a bush/sleeve which will fit inside the 17mm bearing bore and sleeve it down to 15mm which is the usual Suzuki wheel spindle size. Would that work ?
Or......I could just give up and sell the wheels onto to someone else who has 17mm spindles anyway and use these wheels that I picked up for a tenner today![]()

Thoughts and piss takes welcomed.

Remember that the inner spacer spins with both wheel bearings when the wheel spindle is tightened.
no it doesnt. when you tighten the wheel spindle, it pulls the inner race of the bearing tight against the centre spacer and the outer spacers at each end and if it has one, the speedo drive unit, and the fork legs and none of these rotate. all are held tight by the spindle and its nut, and the wheel rotates round on the ball races in the bearings.
Yeah like Johnr says.............
Sometimes putting technical jargon into words...........can be hard!
Anyway thats my ten peneth worth..............................gone!

Re: front wheel spindle
yes, you are right, the centre spacer is the correct distance from the two inner faces of the bearings. it matters not how thick the bearings are, cos the distance in the centre remains the same. you could use the outside spacers in situ like they originally were and add a 2mm spacer to the end up against the fork leg on either side. or get someone with a lathe to make you a spacer to fit each side that is 2mm longer than stock on each side.callyboy wrote:Cheers for the reply Steve........
But (bear with me)........the bearings sit against a recess on both sides ...right? so if the spacer inside was longer than that would push the bearings away from the recess ?
or.....do they not sit against the recess in the first place ?
I would have thought a spacer on the outside of the bearing would work.
Might just give in and junk the bastard things.

Re: front wheel spindle
if those discs are flat they have to be worth at least around £15 each...
my efe still has it's 16 inch front wheel.... never have i ridden a bike that is sooooo dependant on the tyre being in good condition and having the correct tyre pressure. let the pressure drop and the "handling" that is already twitchy goes down the drain...
if it's just a few bearings and a spacer or two ya need then i'd give it a go... nothing ventures n all that but you'll notice a handling difference with that small a front wheel

16" rool, yeh (S2 S3) I love the 16" front...... mind you I love the impulse in the correct colour ways.
like Sparki said give it a go.
I might know some one who ain't on line but may need a set of pop up wheels.
