No engine number on block

Post by colonial » Fri Jan 11, 2013 11:33 am

I say folks, just preparing to move my 7/11 kat on to evil bay. I have checked it over and noticed that the engine number strip is missing from the block.

What is the legal situation now? surely if I sell it I need proof of the engine number? this is the one I bought from Scotland where I was basically scammed a bit.

Thanks

missing as in it's been removed? if so then who knows where it came from... if the v5 doesn't list an engine number, and not all do, then it's really upto the buyer as to how they feel about it.... i'd not be happy personally if there was no number stamped on the engine as it's likely got some murky history.

Engine number is above the clutch casing on the main crank case and not on the Block......the only thing stamped on the block is the CC of the engine.

I'd also be very wary of an engine missing its ID Nos.............Unless you know the engine history. But why would someone remove it ??????

Buyer Beware..........springs to mind!

Thanks folks, quite right about the potential dodginess of the engine. a 6 hour drive, before inspecting the machine probably not wise. Its on the V5, but not on the casing where it ashould be.

Oh well, may just strip it then and sell the bits.

Why not stick a photo up of the bike and the none engine number bit of the cases.
Chances are someone on here will know it and might be able to shed some light on it.
Might be good or bad news, but best to know :?
Maybe stick it in the members area if you want to be a bit discreet.
